I wrote Almost July to capture the feeling of falling in love in the summer as a teenager in Oklahoma long ago. It was a magical time filled with good music, golden beauty, and bad weed.

This recording was produced by my longtime friend, the incredible (and Grammy Award-winning) Stewart Lerman.

Freckles on the bridge of your nose

Red dirt down under our wheels
The wheat standing high in the fields

Something you spend til it’s gone, yeah

We stopped for a smoke on the road
I said there was green in your eyes
You said you’d been told they were blue
I offered that boys will tell lies
When a girl is as pretty as you
They’ll say anything that they can
To win them a place in your heart

It was almost July
The sun burned like fire up above
Stretching the days out so long
A feeling so strong

We stood and we kissed for a while
A faint taste of salt on your lips
Your skin was as soft as a cloud
And I put my hands on your hips
